About this Course

This is a challenging and amazing postgraduate diploma course for senior managers, explores the principles, techniques, management and practices in HIV/AIDS prevention and sexual health strategy. Prevalence of HIV/AIDS

Every day, over 6,800 persons become infected with HIV and over 5,700 persons die from AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV information, prevention and treatment services. The HIV pandemic remains one of the most serious challenges to public health. Nonetheless, the current epidemiologic assessment has encouraging elements since it suggests: the global creation of awareness, education and support to those infected and affected is urgent.

The Aims and Objectives of the Course

The aim of this intensive course is to prepare students for senior management roles at both national and international levels in HIV/AIDS prevention strategy and sexual health planning.

Course Structure

In order to be awarded the Executive Diploma, students would have to pass all 8 modules below. An Executive Certificate may be awarded to students who successfully pass the first 4 modules listed below. The Executive Certificate carries 60 credits while the Executive Diploma carries 120 credits. The course is studied and assessed at level 7 of the UK qualifications and credit framework (QCF). All the Masters level credits are awarded by Middlesex University, UK.

Target Audience

The course is intended for people who are already working or intending to work at senior management levels in HIV/AIDS prevention strategy and sexual health planning. Thus, the course is suitable for doctors, nurses, health visitors, health services managers, public health professionals, social workers, youth & community leaders, human resources managers and other allied healthcare professionals.

Accreditation

The course is accredited by Middlesex University, London and all the Masters Degree level credits are awarded by the university.

Assessment

Assessment is by means of continuous assessment, essay-based assignments and group work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should:-

  • Hold recognised degree in any subject area; or
  • Hold an appropriate recognised professional qualification; or
  • Hold a qualification lower than the ones above, but have at least 2 years appropriate management experience; or
  • Hold no formal qualifications, but have at least 8 years appropriate management experience; plus
  • Meet the English Language requirements below.

English Language Requirements

You must show competence in spoken and written English, in addition to meeting the entry requirements above. The minimum English Language requirement is GCSC O/Level at Grade "C" pass or equivalent international English Language examinations, such as IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL (paper based) 550 or TOEFL (internet based) 79.

Commencement Dates

September, January and May each year.

Top-Up Masters Degree at - Middlesex University

Upon completion of this course, students may proceed to embark on a Top-Up Masters degree of MA in Healthcare at Middlesex University London, with advanced credit exemptions. They may also embark on a similar course at other UK universities.

Top-Up Master Degree at - University of Central Nicaragua

In addition to the Middlesex University masters degree, students who complete the course may also decide on a Top-Up MSc degree award in HIV/AIDS Prevention and Sexual Health Strategy from the Central University of Nicaragua (Universidad Central de Nicaragua). This is achieved by completing a dissertation in a related topic.
